Junior Maths Challenge
Year 4 & Year 5 Maths Challenges.
We were delighted to host Year 4 and Year 5 pupils from 33 local prep and primary schools as part of the DC Beagle Maths Challenge. Over 260 enthusiastic young mathematicians battled it out, at two separate events, pitting their mathematical skills against their rivals. The children were challenged by Douglas Buchanan to find the solution to a variety of teasers and puzzles, against the clock to add to the pressure.
After over an hour of fast-paced number crunching excitement the winners were announced. Congratulations to all our worthy participants and special mention to overall winners.
Theale and Fir Tree Primary Schools were joint third place, John Rankin Primary School gained second place and Elstree School were victorious as the Year 4 Maths Challenge winners 2019.
Burghclere Primary School took third place, Overton Primary School second place and St Gabriel’s triumphed as winners of the Year 5 Maths Challenge 2019.
We were delighted to welcome so many local schools to St Gabriel’s to take part in the two DC Beagle Maths Challenges. This was a fun way for the children to put their mathematical skills into practice; all the children immersed themselves in the afternoon’s activities and I was greatly impressed by the speed of their mental mathematics. Our Senior School girls helped with the marking and thoroughly enjoyed supporting pupils from some of their old primary schools.
