Moving Up to Junior School
“The nursery ignites a love of learning in children that, like them, just keeps on growing”
Children leave the Pre-School Room happy, confident and independent learners ready to embrace the next stage of their education.
To ensure a smooth transition to our Reception class, we operate a staged programme of visits and events. During the Summer Term (six months before they join the Junior School), the children regularly visit the Reception classroom in small groups. This allows them to become familiar with the teaching staff and their new learning environment. During these visits the children explore their new surroundings and take part in 'getting to know you' activities.
In the Summer Term there are two events for the children to come together as a whole class (including children joining from other pre-school settings). A Teddy Bears' Picnic, which is a lovely social occasion for both parents and children to meet staff and explore our lovely school grounds. We also hold an Induction Day, where the children are invited to spend the whole day in Reception in preparation for the new school year. The day starts with a welcome meeting with the Head of the Junior School and the Reception teacher, who will answer any questions parents may have about their child starting in Reception and the school day.
