Baroness Pidding at St Gabriel's

We were delighted to host a talk on Friday 5 October from Baroness Pidding, a member of the House of Lords.  Baroness Pidding's talk to Year 11 -13 students about the work and role of the House of Lords was followed by a question and answer session on various aspects of the parliamentary process and life at the Houses of Parliament generally.  This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to interact with someone who knows the parliamentary system inside out, as it can sometimes seem far removed from their daily lives, but they now have had a good insight into the workings of Westminster. Baroness Pidding's visit was arranged through the Lord Speaker’s “Peers in Schools” as part of our PSHE programme promoting British Values and encouraging students to become more engaged with the political and parliamentary process.

"It was very interesting to learn more about how the Houses of Parliament work following our trip to Westminster."

"As a history student I enjoyed learning more about the history of the House of Lords and was surprised how normal and approachable the Baroness was in response to our questions"

The opportunity to chat to Baroness Pidding after the talk and ask further questions was seized by our Politics students.

Our Sixth Form students also had the opportunity to visit parliament earlier this term to see democracy in action as part of their enrichment programme.
